Terrence Melton is in his sixth year as the head track and field coach at Hebron Christian Academy.
In football, Melton has helped the Lions qualify for state for the past five years. As assistant head coach and linebacker coach, he coached the Lions to the GHSA Private State Championship in 2024. The Lions defeated Prince Avenue 56-28 to win its first-ever state championship.
During the 2025 track and field season, the girls team finished in third place at state while the boys came in fifth. Lizzy Jacobs, Lily Macrina, Ashley Troxell, and Jayden Watts were named 4x200 meter relay state champions. The group came in first and set a new school record with a time 1:41.89.
In track, Melton along with assistant head coach Mike Taylor led the girls team to its first GHSA State Championship in 2021. He was named 2021 Gwinnett All-County Coach of the Year. In 2024, the girls team finished Region 8-AAA Champions and was named GHSA 3A State Runner-Ups with 55 points. Layla Melton, Melton's daughter, was crowned GHSA State Champion in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:22. Lily Macrina finished first and was named GHSA State Champion in the 400 meter in 56.62.
Melton has a plethora of football experience after he played college football at Rice University as a linebacker from 1995-98. Melton would then go on to be drafted into the National Football League (NFL) to play for the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. In his football career, he played a total of six years of NFL football. From 2004-06, Melton played a total of 33 games and recorded 53 tackles for the New Orleans Saints.
Melton is married to 2000 Canadian Olympic track and field team member Margaret Fox-Melton. His wife ran track and field at Rice University and was a part of the first 4x400 relay team that won the NCAA title in 1997. The couple has seven children Malia, Arianna, Layla, Isaiah, Terrence, Allana, and Mya.
