This Week in Athletics: Oct. 21-27

FOOTBALL

Hebron improved to 3-0 in region play with a dominant 42-0 victory over Stephens County on Friday night. Jarvis Mathurin and Devon Caldwell each contributed two touchdowns to the win. The Lions are now 7-1 overall and will travel to face Franklin County (3-5, 0-3) on Friday, October 25.

SOFTBALL

The Lions (25-4) are gearing up for GHSA State Tournament action this week. As the No. 5 seed, HCA will host No. 12 seed North Cobb Christian for a doubleheader on Thursday, October 24. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the Elite Eight in Columbus.

VOLLEYBALL 

The Hebron volleyball team, boasting an impressive record of 37-5, has advanced to the Elite Eight after sweeping Wesleyan in three sets last Saturday. Ashley Troxell led the charge with 10 kills, while Addison Griffin added nine. The No. 1 seed Lions are set to face No. 8 seed Holy Innocents (27-15) on Wednesday, October 23, at Lions Arena, with the first set starting at 6:00 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Hebron cross country team had a strong showing at the North Oconee Invitational this past weekend. The boys team finished fifth out of 22 teams, with Anderson Mathias leading the way in fifth place with a time of 16:25, followed closely by Javi Silva in 12th at 16:58. The girls team also performed well, securing tenth place out of 20 teams, highlighted by Eloise Jones's impressive 12th place finish in 20:27.

FLAG FOOTBALL

The Hebron flag football team will host Fredrick Douglass and North Atlanta on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Burlingame Field. The Lions are 5-1 to start the season. 

SWIMMING

The Hebron swim team kicks off its season this week with Swim for a Cause at the Cherokee Aquatic Center. A standout from last season, Matthew Gasper, has been named to the Gwinnett Daily Post Super Six for boys swimming. He was crowned state champion in the 100 butterfly and also finished eighth at state in the 100 backstroke.
