Cross Country
Cross Country tested it's skills against the rest of Gwinnett County in the annual Gwinnett County Championships at Georgia International Horse Park last Saturday, Sept. 13. Out of 20 teams, the boys placed fifth with a team score of 151 behind large Gwinnett schools like Brookwood, North Gwinnett, Buford and Mill Creek.

Senior Andy Mathias continued to lead the Lions well, posting a fourth-place finish after a blazing time of 15:59.42. Junior Javi Silva came in behind Mathias, placing 23rd to earn a top-25 medal. Wilson Mathias finished shortly after in 28th. Sean McCorkle took 52nd, Noble Fink came in 55th, and Tristin Demesa rounded out the Hebron top six.

For the girls, they placed 11th out of 17 teams, posting a team score of 285. Sophomore Eloise Jones led the girls, placing 10th with a course personal-record of 19:56.02. Lindsay Buchanan placed 50th, Amarin Stevens and Amber Smith finished 87th and 88th, respectively, Adi Wilson came in 90th, and Abbey Mauk came in 93rd to round out the top six.

The Lions will next travel to Charlotte, N.C. to run in the Hare and Hounds Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 20.

Volleyball
Volleyball had an extremely busy week, playing 12 matches across five days, winning all 12 and dropping just one set.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, Hebron defeated Loganville and Cherokee Bluff on the road, topping Loganville 25-15, 25-18, and Bluff 25-19, 25-22. The Lions then traveled to Hartwell for a tri-match with Hart and East Jackson. They took down Hart 25-18, 25-21, and East Jackson 25-10, 25-13.

After four games during the week, Hebron played eight more at the Rocky Top Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., winning the tournament on an undefeated run. The Lions took on teams from a handful of different states, including South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. However, they weren't phased, winning every set but one (Green Hill).

In the tournament, Junior middle-hitter Jade Howard had 64 kills with 29 blocks, junior outside-hitter Ashley Troxell had 67 kills, leading the Lion attack. Junior Addison Griffin added 42 kills with five aces, while senior Aubrey Cowart had 26 service aces. Fueling the attack, Elle Walker had 110 assists. On defense, KK Prentice earned 43 digs, while Laila Walker added 38.

Hebron will travel to Franklin County for a tri-match with the Lions and Commerce today, Monday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and will then focus on the Gwinnett County Championships starting this Thursday, Sept. 18.

Softball
Similar to volleyball, softball also went on the road up to Tennessee. While they were a few minutes down the road in Chattanooga, the Lions still took care of business with a 3-0 stand in this year's Score Invite on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13.

After defeating region foes Franklin County and Hart County earlier in the week, Hebron faced Ringgold, George Walton Academy and Dade County in Tennessee, all of which they got the best of.

Against Ringgold, the Lions got the bats rolling early, scoring five in the top of the first, and four more over the next two innings. The Tigers had a four-run bottom of the fourth, but the Lions shut them down to get the six-run win. Sophomore Kate Kennedy threw five strong innings, striking out 11 batters in the win. On offense, sophomore shortstop Juls Huber led the way, knocking a home run with two runs-batted-in (RBI). Huber Homered in three-straight games last week, across the Franklin, Hart and Ringgold wins!

George Walton got off to a good start against Hebron the following day, scoring four across the first two innings. However, Hebron rallied to score five over the next three innings, on the back of four shutout innings from Kennedy, who struck out eight batters. She also earned her 100th-career strikeout during the second day of the invitational.

Hebron ended the weekend with a strong 8-0 win over Dade County. With a 3-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth, the Lions added five more runs to pad the lead. Overall, they had 12 hits to Dade's one. Kennedy pitched six masterful innings, striking out 11. The lineup was led by senior first baseman Lauren Kyranakis, who went 3-3 with a solo home run. Sissom, Brylee Autry, Gabby Raysor and Ainsley Trenbeath each had two hits in the win.

Competition Cheer
Cheer took to the mats for the first time this season at the Lambert Cheer Invitational at Lambert High School last Saturday, Sept. 13. The Lions put together a great performance, earning 79.5 points to take first place.
The Lions will next compete at the Buford Invitational at Buford High School on Saturday, Sept. 27.
