DACULA, Ga.- The Hebron lacrosse team defeated a tough Oconee County team 11-10 in overtime last night.
Max Steve had the winning goal to lift the Lions to victory with less than two minutes left in overtime. HCA improves to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Warriors fall to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in region competition.
"Our guys battled until the end. We are in the mentality of what it takes to win a region game and advance to the playoffs. We have talked about pride-trust-grit this season and I believe we are now finding our identity and hitting our peak at the right time. It was a battle till the end against two very good teams," commented head coach William Munley.Â
In Wednesday's back-and-forth affair, it was the Warriors who broke through first, by scoring the game's opening goal. The lead flipped between both teams majority of the game. At the break, the Lions had the lead 5-4. Offensively,
Reid Oliver led the team in goals with four.
Jackson Wolfe recorded three goals,
Max Steve added two, and
Pierson Myers had one. Defensively, goalkeeper
Patrick Crist tallied 16 saves on the night and
Tanner Bowen had three takeaways and eight ground balls.Â
"I'm so proud of my guys and I give a lot of credit to Oconee County for being well coached and playing us tough. We are extremely excited to play our last region game against Wesleyan and put ourselves in the best spot possible for the playoffs," said Munley.Â
