Hebron boys basketball went 2-0 last week, defeating Bethlehem Christian 67-46 on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and Seckinger 58-53 last Saturday, Dec. 6.
The Lions are now 7-2 on the year, and riding a four-game winning streak.
Against Bethlehem Christian, the Lions held just a 32-28 lead at the half, but swelled that into a 21-point win.
"The adjustments defensively (at halftime), they were guarding because I said "guard", not because it was the right thing to do, and so challenging them defensively to win that yard, and to compete because they want to be great, and not just because I said to do it," head coach Derrick Mason said. "The whole game we did a bad job of turning the offense over, and getting to the third side of the floor. We would run continuity offense, but utilize it as a quick hitter, versus getting to the first, second and third sides of the floor. So, our ball movement was a whole lot better, sparked by our effort on the defensive end."
In the second half, the Lions slowly grew their lead, and rolled into their sixth win of the season. Senior Devon McField led Hebron in scoring, with 28 points, while adding one steal and one assist. Landon Crews and Lukas Romine added eight points each and combined for 11 rebounds and six assists.
Ashton Burt had five points in the win, with 12 rebounds and one assist.
McField also led the Lions in scoring against Seckinger over the weekend, scoring 18 (four three-pointers) with two rebounds, two assists. Romine added 10 points with five rebounds, while Brandyn manning had nine points on three three-pointers.
Hebron will get a lengthy break over the next few weeks, as they won't take the court again until Friday, Dec. 19, when they face Union Grove at Brookwood High School.
The Lions will look to continue their hot streak in that neutral-site contest.
"The strength of schedule is important, some coaches are looking to pad stats, but I'm not," Mason said of the early season schedule. "I'm looking to create the best team and program possible, and so you want to play some of the best teams and really see where you are. We're not focused solely on the the win or the loss, but the way we play the game, and if we're winning in the areas that we're charting ... then we will win on the scoreboard."
