ATLANTA, Ga. - Last night, the Hebron baseball team had a thrilling comeback victory 13-10 over Greater Atlanta Christian. The Lions had a seven-run inning to help seal the victory over the Spartans.
Dallas Rice started on the mound going three innings allowing only two earned runs and striking out five Spartans before handing the ball over to
Anthony Ponzio in the fourth inning. The Lions were down 7-5, Ponzio went two 2/3 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out two batters. Ponzio handed the ball over to
Thomas Stallworth, who closed the game out. HCA was still down 10-6 in the sixth inning with two outs, Stallworth got the ball and got the third out to turn it over to
Tyler Rogers and the top of our lineup.
Rogers led off the inning with a single. With an out,
Demitri Watts drew a walk to put runners at first and second.
Dean Livingston delivered a two strike single to load the bases.
James McGuirt legged out an infield single and drove in the first run of the inning.
Griffin Treadwell drew a walk, which scored Watts to make it 10-8.
Destin Matthews hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Livingston to make it 10-9. After a GAC pitching change, and two outs,
Gus Steve stepped in the box with two outs and the tying run at second base and hit a beautiful base hit to right field to score McGuirt and tie the game at 10-10.
Brodie Lewis squared a ball up and was able to keep the inning alive by reaching on an error. On that same play,
Barrett Bruce scored giving us an 11-10 lead. The decisive blow was when we batted around and Roger came back up with two outs and hit an absolute missile to right center field for a bases clearing triple, scoring Steve and Lewis, and giving the Lions a 13-10 lead and capping a seven-run inning!
Thomas Stallworth went to work in the bottom of the seventh inning on the mound. The first batter grounded out to Lewis while the second batter walked. Stallworth struck the third batter out, but walked the next guy giving GAC runners at first and seconnd with two outs. Stallworth and the defense rose to the occasion, getting him to ground into a fielder's choice to seal the victory.
The Lions are 5-2 on the season and head to Winder for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 1st at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
