ATLANTA, Ga. - The Hebron swim team had an unbelievable performance at the GHSA State Championships on Feb. 5-6 at the McAuley Aquatic Center. The boys came in seventh overall while the girls finished 33rd overall.
The highlight of the meet came from junior Riley Richards, who took home the title of 100 freestyle state champion with a time of 45.56. Max Perry, from Wesleyan, finished second in 46.39 followed Kye Marrero in third with a time of 47.08.
Richards also earned a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 20.99. This marks the second consecutive year that the Lions have had an individual state champion. Last year, Matthew Gasper claimed the 100 butterfly title with a time of 51.41. Gasper was back in action this year, finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.03.
The boys relay teams showcased their strength and teamwork. The 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of Joshua Graves, Jeremiah Knoll, Ethan Kim, and Richards, earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:30.29. The boys also placed third in the 400 freestyle relay, with Gasper, Graves, Knoll, and Richards posting a time of 3:20.45.
Other notable performances for the Lions included Gasper's 14th-place finish in the 100 backstroke, as well as Adeline Thompson's 14th-place finish in the same event on the girls side. Ethan Kim also represented Hebron well, finishing 20th in the 100 breaststroke.
