DACULA, Ga.- The Hebron track and field team delivered a strong showing at the Area 1A-3A Private 4 Championships on Wednesday evening, finishing second overall. The girls team scored an impressive 173.50 points, while the boys contributed 137 points. Athens Academy claimed first place in the overall standings.
In the high jump,
Ashley Troxell claimed second place with a mark of 4'10". In discus,
Leah Jensen and
Taryn Dixon took third and fourth, respectively. Jensen threw 114' 7", and Dixon with a mark of 98'2".
Micah Gunji landed second place in the long jump, with teammate
Oluwaseyi Adesina following close behind in third. In boys discus,
Tyler McCart dominated the event with a first-place throw of 140'4", while
Blake Humphries earned second place with a mark of 130'7".
In the running events,
Eloise Jones crossed the line in second place with a time of 5:28.11 in the 1600 meter. In the girls 4x800 meter relay, Hebron came in second with athletes
Lindsay Buchanan,
Eloise Jones,
Sophia Rhodes, and
Amber Smith in 10:32.16. Londyn Friend took home first in the 100 meter in 12.91 while
Jayden Watts finished second with a time of 13.14.
Lily Macrina was first in the 400 meter with an impressive time of 57.61. Macrina also came in third in the 200 meter in 25.52.
On the boys side,
Anderson Mathias and
Javi Silva came in second and third, respectively, in the 1600 meter. Silva also crossed the line in second in the 800 meter in 1:59.55. Mathias came home with first place in the 3200 meter in 9:58.63. The boys 4x100 team came in second place consisting of
Micah Gunji, Nicholas Hall,
Jarvis Mathurin, and
Micah Langford.
The Lions now turn their attention to the Private Sectionals State Qualifier on Saturday, May 3. Athletes who advance will compete in the GHSA State Championships, set for May 9–10.
