DACULA, Ga. – Hebron Christian Academy Head Track & Field Coach Terrence Melton has announced his decision to step down to pursue a new opportunity, concluding one of the most impactful coaching tenures in school history.

Melton has served as the leader of Hebron's track & field program since founding the boys and girls teams in 2014. Over the past 13 seasons, he built HCA into one of the premier programs in the state of Georgia, highlighted by the program's first-ever GHSA State Championship on the girls side in 2021 and another girls state title captured earlier this week.

Beyond his success on the track, Melton also played a key role in Hebron football's recent dominance, serving as Assistant Head Coach during the Lions' back-to-back GHSA State Championship seasons in 2025 and 2026.

"Coach Melton's impact on Hebron Christian Academy cannot be measured solely by championships or trophies," said HCA Director of Athletics Taylor Davis. "Terrence built this program from the ground up and poured his heart into it every single day for more than a decade. He has mentored, challenged and inspired generations of student-athletes while representing Hebron with incredible integrity and passion."

In addition to leading the Lions to two GHSA team state championships in track & field, Melton mentored athletes to 21 individual and relay state championships during his tenure, including seven state titles this season alone. His ability to build meaningful relationships and develop student-athletes both on and off the track has left a lasting impact on countless individuals.

"Just the people," Melton said about what he will remember from his time at Hebron. "It's all about our mission – our mission is the kids, God placed us here to impact kids and their futures. I hope I've set a foundation… we've been runners-up, we've won championships, to say that we really put Hebron track and field on the map is an understatement. I hope that whoever comes in after me goes on to continue what we've started."

Beyond his impact on the track, the Melton family has become an important part of the Hebron community over the past decade. All seven of his children have attended Hebron Christian Academy during his tenure, including three Hebron alumni. This spring, his youngest daughter also completed kindergarten at HCA. Their investment in the school community has reflected the same commitment and passion Coach Melton brought to Hebron athletics each day.

"Seeing my kids grow up (at Hebron) has been amazing," Melton said. "I'm so happy that I had the opportunity for them to get a start here. Some amazing people have taught them, coached them and guided them. God has a plan, and if you stick to that plan there's nothing but success."

Hebron Christian Academy will begin an immediate search for its next head track & field coach, focusing on identifying a leader who will continue building upon the championship culture and strong foundation established during Melton's historic tenure.
