DACULA, Ga. - The Hebron boys soccer team advanced to the Final Four after the Lions won 2-1 in double overtime over Savannah Country Day. Freshman
Benji Gunji had both goals on the night to make for his 22nd goal on the year. The Lions improve to 14-1-2, 5-0 and advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive year. The Hornets conclude its season with a 15-1-15 overall record and 7-0 region record.
Both teams held great possessions, but were scoreless in the first half. Coming out of the half, SCDS scored first to take the lead 1-0. A few minutes later, the Lions attacked and got a goal from Gunji, who hit the ball into the right corner of the net. The teams remained scoreless the rest of regulation to lead the game into overtime.
In the second overtime, the Lions had a corner kick with three minutes remaining.
Aiden Kanclerz took the kick and the ball found Gunji. Gunji hit it into the right corner of the net to give the Lions the 2-1 lead. The Lions backline kept the Hornets out of the net for the rest of regulation. Goalkeeper Cameron Elden had a great night as he recorded six saves.
HCA hosts Bremen at Burlingame Field on Friday, May 3 for the Final Four. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the GHSA 3A State Championship on Wednesday, May 8 at McEachern HS.
